[mild spoilers.] This is probably the only Laurann Dohner book I've ever disliked. I couldn't stand the heroine, whom I found childish and manipulative, and I didn't much like the hero either. I think I have a prejudice against seeing female characters abase themselves while begging their men to take them back--or in this case, not sell them to one of their colleagues.
Given that this was the first book I'd read of Dohner's, I am so glad that I did not give up on her. She is definitely one of my favorite authors.
Luckily the books in this series get steadily better, especially the last three, and the New Species series is fantastic. Ironically, the thing I love most about her is her heroines. They are all ordinary gals, who are a great mix of spunky and vulnerable. I think Mira is an aberration and this is the only book I've read of hers where the heroine is humiliated
So just be warned if you don't like this book--the ones that follow are great.
