Goodnatured workplace romance, starring a vaguely Jory-like assistant, who manages to be competent, well-liked, and attractive without being even slightly annoying--a remarkable feat. It's a fairly quiet story, but I was impressed by how the author built up the law firm setting with plenty of details on the actual labor carried out there, but with a refreshing absence of the usual cliches about lawyers. The dialogue with Lorna, the obligatory advice-dispensing friend, also felt unusually normal and naturalistic to me and free of "sassiness" and other overused devices. Altogether this story was a lovely example of the effectiveness of understatement. Oh, and I shouldn't forget: the sex was very hot.
